Abstract

Diabetes melitus is a chronic disease that requires long-term management to achieve optimal glycemic control. Patient adherence to medication is a key factor in managing this disease. Low adherence can lead to increased blood glucose levels, accelerate complications, and reduce the quality of life of patients in physical, psychological, and social aspects. This study aims to analyze the relationship between medication adherence and quality of life in patients with diabetes mellitus at Pelambuan Health Center, Banjarmasin. The study employed a correlational analytical design with a cross-sectional approach and accidental sampling technique involving 54 respondents. Medication adherence was measured using the Morisky Medication Adherence Scale-8 (MMAS-8), and quality of life was assessed using the Diabetes Quality of Life (DQoL). Data analysis was performed using the Spearman Rank test at a significance level of 0.05. The results showed that most respondents had high adherence (46.3%) and high quality of life (81.5%). Statistical tests revealed a significant relationship between medication adherence and quality of life (p = 0.025; r = 0.304). This positive correlation indicates that the higher the adherence, the better the quality of life, although the strength of the relationship is considered weak. In conclusion, medication adherence plays an important role in improving the quality of life for patients with diabetes melitus.
