Pengaruh Local Hyperthermia Terhadap Frekuensi Napas dan Saturasi Oksigen pada Pasien Pneumonia : Studi Kasus

In pneumonia, alveoli may fill with fluid and secretions that hinder oxygen diffusion, causing dyspnea. Persistent respiratory compromise can disrupt vital organ function; therefore, comprehensive nursing care is required alongside pharmacological therapy. One non-pharmacological option is Local hyperthermia (controlled heat applied to the anterior chest), which may promote chest-wall relaxation and improve pulmonary perfusion, thereby supporting respiratory indicators. This study aimed to analyze the effect of Local hyperthermia on respiratory rate (RR) and oxygen saturation (SpO?) in a pneumonia patient in the ICU. The method was a case study using a nursing care approach in the ICU of RSUD Inche Abdoel Moeis Samarinda. The intervention used a hot-water bag (±50°C) wrapped in a towel and placed on the anterior chest for 23 minutes, twice daily (12-hour interval) for four consecutive days. RR and SpO? were measured immediately before and after each session through routine clinical assessment and bedside monitoring. Results showed a mean RR reduction of 5 breaths/minute and a mean SpO? increase of 1 point. The analysis indicates that Local hyperthermia is effective in stabilizing RR and improving SpO?
